Terms and Conditions

Last updated: 2026-07-25

What changed

  • 2026-07-20 — Added three Code of Conduct rules about respecting other members’ privacy and not sharing their personal information outside the community without consent, including with therapists or other third parties (Section 5). Added a clarifying sentence under Section 8.3 noting that we cannot control what individual members discuss with third parties, but such disclosures may breach the Code of Conduct and trigger community consequences.
  • 2026-07-25 — Added Section 8.7 making clear that members are responsible for what they post (including any defamatory or harmful claims), and that Divergent Tabletop is a host, not a publisher. Condensed the Code of Conduct privacy bullets in Section 5 to match the About page, and added a companion section to the Privacy Policy.

Welcome to Divergent Tabletop!

These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of our website, events, and community platforms. By participating in any Divergent Tabletop event or digital space, you agree to these Terms.

1. 🎯 Purpose

Divergent Tabletop exists to create social spaces for neurodivergent adults, focused around board games, connection, and informal peer-to-peer support.

This is a volunteer-run, peer-led community project organized by individuals with lived experience—not licensed therapists, counselors, psychologists, or medical professionals. We do not provide therapeutic, medical, diagnostic, or professional mental health services of any kind.

Our community is NOT a substitute for professional mental health care, therapy, counseling, or medical treatment. We strongly encourage seeking qualified professional support for mental health concerns.

2. ✅ Eligibility

  • You must be 18 years or older to participate in any Divergent Tabletop events or communities.
  • This space welcomes individuals across the neurodivergent spectrum, including those who are self-diagnosed or questioning.
  • Respectful allies are welcome if they support the purpose of the space.

3. 🎫 Events & Tickets

  • All event registrations are managed via Quicket (or other third-party platforms).
  • Tickets are non-transferable unless explicitly stated.
  • Cancellations or refunds will follow the policy listed on the event page.

The organizer reserves the right to deny entry or participation to anyone violating our Code of Conduct.

4. 📱 Community Platforms

We currently use:

  • WhatsApp Communities (for event chat, social spaces, and support)
  • Quicket (for event ticketing)
  • Tally.so (for forms, feedback, and ideas)
  • Meetup (for additional event visibility)

By joining, you agree to follow each platform’s rules in addition to our own.

5. 🧠 Code of Conduct

All members are expected to follow the spirit and letter of our community rules:

  • Respect others’ identities, boundaries, and lived experiences.
  • Do not give medical, therapeutic, or diagnostic advice. Share personal experiences only, with the understanding that what works for you may not work for others.
  • Do not give unsolicited advice or attempt to “fix” others.
  • Assume good intent, but be open to feedback.
  • No hate speech, discrimination, trolling, or spam.
  • No adult/NSFW content, even though this is an 18+ space.
  • Always recommend professional help for serious mental health concerns, crises, or medical questions.
  • Respect other members’ privacy. Don’t share another member’s name, contact details, screenshots, quotes, summaries, or identifiable stories outside Divergent Tabletop spaces — including with therapists, support people, social media, or other groups — without their explicit consent, except where you reasonably believe there is an immediate risk of serious harm. You’re free to discuss your own experiences, but keep other members anonymous unless they’ve clearly said otherwise. Sharing another member’s contact details with a third party without their consent (other than in emergencies) is considered harmful behaviour and may result in removal from the community.
  • You own what you say. We do not edit or pre-approve member messages and cannot guarantee the accuracy of anything another member shares. Defamatory or harmful statements are the responsibility of the member who makes them — not Divergent Tabletop. See Section 8.7 for the full wording.

We reserve the right to remove or block individuals who jeopardize community wellbeing or provide harmful advice.

6. 🔐 Privacy

Please refer to our Privacy Policy for how your information is collected, stored, and used.

We do not sell personal data. Sensitive information is only collected with your consent.

8. ⚖️ Disclaimer of Liability & Assumption of Risk

8.1 No Professional Services

Divergent Tabletop and its organizers, volunteers, and community members are not licensed mental health professionals, therapists, counselors, psychologists, or medical providers. Any information, suggestions, or discussions shared within our community:

  • Are based on personal experiences and opinions only
  • Do not constitute professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment
  • Should never replace consultation with qualified professionals
  • May not be accurate, complete, or suitable for your individual circumstances

Always seek the advice of qualified mental health professionals regarding any medical condition, mental health concern, or treatment decisions.

8.3 Limitation of Liability

Divergent Tabletop is a volunteer-run, community-led initiative. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not responsible or liable for:

  • Personal injury, accidents, or losses during events or activities
  • Emotional distress, mental health deterioration, or psychological harm resulting from participation, peer discussions, or advice shared by community members
  • Harm resulting from following suggestions or advice shared by other members
  • User-generated content posted in WhatsApp groups, social media, or other platforms (see Section 8.7 for the full member-content rule)
  • Actions or misconduct of other community members at events or online
  • Issues, data breaches, or service interruptions caused by third-party platforms (WhatsApp, Quicket, Tally.so, Meetup, etc.)
  • Errors, omissions, or inaccuracies in any information shared through our platforms
  • Loss or theft of personal belongings at events or gatherings

Divergent Tabletop cannot control what individual members discuss with therapists, healthcare providers, or other third parties, and is not liable for such disclosures. However, such disclosures may breach our Code of Conduct and may result in community consequences, including removal. See Section 8.7 below for the full rule on member-generated content.

8.4 Assumption of Risk

By participating in Divergent Tabletop events or communities, you acknowledge and agree that:

  • You participate entirely at your own risk and discretion
  • You understand that peer support is not a substitute for professional care
  • You will not hold Divergent Tabletop, its organizers, volunteers, or members liable for any harm
  • You are responsible for your own wellbeing and decision-making
  • You will seek professional help when needed and not rely solely on peer support

8.5 Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Divergent Tabletop, its organizers, volunteers, and community members from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from:

  • Your participation in our events or communities
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any rights of another person
  • Any content you share with other members, including any defamatory or unlawful claims about other people

8.6 Third-Party Content

Community members may share personal experiences, opinions, resources, or suggestions. These do not represent the views of Divergent Tabletop and are not endorsed by us. We cannot verify the accuracy or appropriateness of member-shared content.

Use your own judgment and always consult professionals before making decisions based on information shared in our community.

8.7 Member-Generated Content and Member Responsibility

You own what you say. If you share something that’s defamatory, misleading, or harmful — for example, false or unverified claims about a healthcare professional, an employer, or any other personyou, not Divergent Tabletop, are responsible for it.

In practice this means:

  • We don’t read or pre-approve messages, and we can’t guarantee anything a member says is accurate.
  • We may edit, hide, or remove content that breaks the Code of Conduct, that we reasonably believe is unlawful, or that someone reports to us.
  • We may remove or suspend members who keep posting harmful content.
  • To the extent the law allows, we’re not liable for member content we haven’t been notified of, or that we’re actively removing.

If you think something posted in our community is defamatory or otherwise unlawful, email privacy@divergenttabletop.co.za and we’ll take a look. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle your details when you report something.

9. 🏥 Medical Disclaimer

  • Provide medical, psychiatric, psychological, or therapeutic services
  • Diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or condition
  • Offer professional counseling or crisis intervention
  • Recommend specific treatments, medications, or healthcare providers
  • Endorse any particular approach to mental health or neurodivergence
